Bell South DSL Growth Rate-
According to BLS earnings releases, at 9/30/2001, DSL subscriber lines totaled 463,000. At the 12/31/2000, BLS's DSL subscriber lines totaled 215,000. The 248,000 subscriber line increase thus far in 2001 is 115.35%, a very large percentage increase (from a fairly small base), but not 300%.
How does this compare with SBC? At 9/30/2001, DSL lines totaled 1,200,000, substantially higher than BLS's. At the end of 12/31/2000, SBC's DSL lines totaled 761,000. SBC's 439,000 DSL increase through the first nine months of 2001 represents a 57.69% increase over the 761,000 12/31/2000 level. SBC had a large volume increase on a very large starting base. Remember, SBC complained about poor economic conditions and governmental regulations. BLS did not speak to these two issues in their recent press release, but the issues might have been addressed in the conference call.
I think that I spelled everything correctly. |
