Sorry, Greg, but you are not wrong. (This time) ggg.
My career was in the Business Administration colleges or departments of universities. As to be expected, BusAd people tend to be conservatives, although they often include some flaming liberals, especially in economics. Usually BusAd profs keep themselves aloof from campus social issues. They are rarely activists. BusAd faculty are generally looked upon with condescending contempt by faculty from liberal arts or the social sciences ... not so much for their views as for who they are (part of the "problem", and not of the "solution") in the liberal eye.
Without a doubt, "political correctness" finds its most fertile field in the university. One quick example: A professor used the term "niggardly," in a lecture. As I'm sure you know, this word is a synonym for "stingy." Quite predictably, he was reported for a racial slur by a student with a poor vocabulary. This placed the university administration in a delicate position, inasmuch as they knew full well what the word means ... but, still, a minority student had been offended. Their solution was to tell the professor that he had used "poor judgment" in using a word that could be misconstrued in this manner, and "suggested" that he never use the word again in a classroom.
How do I know this? I was the professor..
Need I say more?
