John:

I just upgraded my HP Omnibook 6000 laptop (thanks Intel!) with another 128M PC133 SODIMM from Kingston for $39 (now I have 256M).

I'm going to attend my local St. Louis Windows XP launch event on 10/30, and they're supposed to hand out $50 rebate coupons. If that's the case, I'll probably go ahead and buy XP Pro. Sam's Club has it the cheapest I've found, at $185 for the upgrade. With the additional 27% savings from the rebate, it would be marginally worth it.
