I can say I am not in favor, under the terms of your hypothetical, right now If they captured my kid I should NOT be the one to set policy on torture I might want to murder a suspect who harmed my kid too but that doesn't make it right for me to do it The most dangerous and horrible people are those giving themselves the license to do anything because of fervent emotions. I do not give myself that license under normal circumstances, and I want no one else to allow me to have it, just because I go temporarily mad from grief- if, indeed, I ever do that.
