At the risk of sounding "condescending", I'd like to know why that takes a law or amendment making the language official. In the business environment, the language that is used is generally the one that most understand...in this country that is obviously English. If people from say Siemans are working here and they are all German and they hold a private business meeting wouldn't they be expected to speak German? I have participated in many such international meetings in this country and invariably the language used is English.
In similar settings abroad, the official language of conferences are almost always English since it the most common language denominator around the world and also because so few Americans speak anything other than English. In meetings at French or German or Japanese companies, the meeting attendees try to accommodate the Americans if at all possible. I've never seen it go the other way here. If the proposal you talk about is enacted how would it be enforced?
It would be impossible and that's one of the reasons I say the RW is trying to send some group or groups a message. What is that message?
