Jacob, I think we are on the same wavelength here. The way I see it, this whole terrorist thing points to technology. In order for terrorism to function, terrorists need to be able to hide. As one recent example, I heard one of our Predator unmanned aircraft spotted one of the terrorist commanders over there, and that we came close to taking this individual out as a result. With advanced technology we should be able to make it very difficult for these people to hide at some point, particularly if there are no governments that are supporting them. If a government does support them, then I think the nations that are against terrorism should do what ever is needed to stop them, even if it means declaring an all out war on the country.
I wonder if we will look back some day at the prices we have now on some of the good, solid, tech companies like AMAT and think it was a steal. Very hard to say right now in this economic and political darkness.
Maybe I am missing something, but the way I see it, we need more technology to be applied to improve our lives and the efficiency of virtually everything. Why do we need 3,000 to 4,000 commercial airliners up in the sky on any given day? That seems very inefficient to me. We are creatures of habit, as they say, and maybe Sept. 11 is going to force us to change. Humans are incredibly adaptable and smart when they need to be. Maybe life just got too easy over here in the USA, and now we will address these areas of complacency and inefficiency much better. The "sleeping giant" analogy.
