Quite the contrary. The initial impact of x86-64 will be to slow the migration from Athlon to Hammer as consumers question their need for 64-bit computing. But once, due to the lower costs of system boards, value segment Hammer systems start to sell for less than value segment K7 systems of the same speed grade (and slightly less performance), thrift will win the day.
