That's no different than current server OSes being able to address a 36-bit address space, but databases only dealing with 32 bits of address space at a time.

The advantage of 64-bit addressing is the flat memory model. Even if an OS is able to address terabytes of memory, a database application will still be hobbled by the 32-bit limit. The application itself must be able to address 64 bits before it becomes an advantage.
