David,

Some of the biggest differences between PC-DTV and DTV (Digital TV) is resolution and aspect ratio; (svga vs HDTV). What will the consumers prefer? Will Joe Sixpack want to watch a ballgame broadcast in HDTV while sitting at his PC and watching on a 15 inch monitor or will PC manufacturers offer HDTV monitors? Will he want to get a second phone line or pay extra for ISDN just to watch soap operas? Will he pay extra for PC-DTV on cable?

Or will he keep his PC separate from his TV and wait to buy a HDTV set to watch major motion pictures in origional aspect ratio and sporting events with a stadium like view? I can picture an american gothic scene of the whole family gathered around the PC to watch a movie together.

I don't know about you, but I don't see myself using the PC as a TV set. Of course I am spoiled with my Kloss 6' projection system still cranking out acceptable pics attached to my stereo system. Grabbing a beer, wine, soda and munchies is as interactive as I want to get. If I see anything interesting on MSNBC, I'll go over to a PC located in the same room and browse the site.

"Consumers will be able to receive terrestrial broadcasting, satellite broadcasting and cable TV signals through a single TV, he said."
So what, I can do that now!

"Mundie said all PCs will be capable of receiving digital television signals by about 2000."
Question is, will they be able to receive HDTV on those little 15" screens.

Where did he get those figures on sales of PC's and TV sets? Obvious MS propaganda.

There are tons of issues to be resolved before anything catches on big. ABC and CBS are telling their program suppliers to focus on action in the middle of the HDTV aspect ratio so that 4:5 sets will be able to follow the action.

These issues are sturring quite a lot of discussions at the moment.

Time to head for Grand Central.....
Later,
GEorge
