Many Crimean officers and soldiers came to Canada I believe probably recieving land in some part as payment for their service. Canada at the time was still a British colony. For example:

There are place names in Canada after soldiers, famous battles ect. The more you study this war the more you become aware of how it altered world history. There was a Russian nurse too, the equivalent to Florence Nightingale.
