Did America help Afghanistan by helping it fight off Soviet imperialists? Or did America hurt Afghanistan by inciting it into a devastating war with the Soviets? Brzezinski says it was the second scenario. <<< According to President Carter’s National Security Advisor, Zbigniew Brzezinski, the US got involved in mid 1979. Do you remember, just to put the dates right, that Russia invaded Afghanistan in December 1979. Ok. According to Brzezinski, the US support for the mojahedin fighting against the government began 6 months earlier. He is very proud of that.
