Our local paper did a story a few months ago on a small Kentucky school district that is headed in the right direction, as evidenced by higher test scores and other indicators. The key? Increasing parental involvement ... Teachers and parents have dinner at night once a month to discuss school district strategies and objectives, parents are called promptly when a kid starts to neglect his homework, etc.
