There are two types of polls: scientific and unscientific. The voluntary Internet polls often cited by right-wingnuts are unscientific and, as such, inaccurate and useless. Scientific polls themselves sometimes are less than accurate, based on flaws in sampling, etc. (Think back to a year ago when the Portrait of America poll cited by many Republicans proved to be highly inaccurate because it only polled "likely" voters, i.e., those that voted in '96.)

I always am amused by right-wingers who cite voluntary Internet polls. I think someone on this board one time even based an argument on an Internet approval poll sponsored by newsmax.com. I just shook my head in amazement.
