And they don't just lock up, either. The recalled PIII 1.13GHZ and 900MHZ Xeon chips would corrupt data but the systems would keep running, so the administrators didn't know their data was being ruined. The 810 chipset and early 820 chipset and Intel's attempt at an 8-way chipset did the same thing. (which is why they dropped their 8-way for a while and went with ServerWorks).

It's been an ongoing problem for Intel with that series.

It's affected many systems and can't be corrected by removing a bad network card.
