You are correct. Each is a stand alone and then multiply the 2. If there are 47 cards remaining including the four 4's the probability is 4 chances of success in 47(4/47) and the next would be 3 chances in 46 (3/46). You multiply the two.

If you want an interesting exercise look at the odds of winning at something that wants you to pick 6 numbers from 49 and only 6. The probability is over 1 in 13 million. If you have a 6/42 the probability is now a more "reasonable" 1 in 5,000,000+.

For what should now be obvious reasons I would not invest in these at gun point. US powerball ..... is it still 5/45 and then a separate 1/42? If so, (and excuse me if it has changed but I don't follow these things after I first looked into them)that last 1/42 seems simple enough but that 1/41 followed by a 1/42 makes the probability over 70,000,000 to 1......... nice odds!

Stick to poker, though I prefer Blackjack (single deck if OK) and we will both have more fun and a better chance of winning.
