NVTL and DELL deal may be announced next week.
NVTL + Dell PIPR: U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray Intraday Comments (Mid AM) - 10/17/01 (Item 1
(First Call 10/17 12:33:24)

z GPRS Is Shipping In Volume in Q401. We believe Novatel Wireless is
currently shipping in volume to Voicestream (Deutsche Telekom) and
will begin shipping to ATT Wireless and Microcell (Canada) this
quarter. There are two distinct GPRS services being introduced. The
first is mobile phone based GPRS services and the second is data
centric services. The latter is the addressable market that Novatel
Wireless targets. Typically, mobile phone based services are launched
first with data centric solutions introduced several months
thereafter. Of the four leading GSM carriers in North America,
Voicestream and Microcell have introduced mobile phone based GPRS
services in recent weeks and each is preparing to introduce data
centric based services before year end 2001. ATT Wireless and
Cingular have introduced limited mobile phone based services on a
regional basis. Later we expect the GSM coverage footprint to expand
and data centric services to be offered in Q102.
z Europe is Next. We expect Novatel Wireless will begin shipping to
mmO2 (fomerly BT CellNet) this quarter with Dell (#) Europe beginning
to incorporate NVTL's GPRS modems into their laptops by Q202. The
inclusion of European markets substantially expands Novatel Wireless'
addressable market.
z CDMA 1xRTT PC Cards, The Other Catalyst. We anticipate CDMA 1xRTT PC
Card product will begin shipping in limited quantities in Q401 to a
Canadian based service provider. In the United States, Verizon, Sprint
PCS and Alltel are expected to commence 1xRTT by mid year 2002,
significantly expanding Novatel Wireless' overall addressable market

Novatel Wireless has commenced shipping GPRS PC card modems and announced earlier in the week that it is shipping CDMA 2000 1X PC cards. The company currently has a backlog of significantly over $50 million on its next generation products. On September 28th, Novatel Wireless announced that it had signed two contracts for GPRS products with one of the world's leading telecommunications carriers and with one of the largest PC manufacturers. These new contracts combined were valued at significantly over $15 million. Additionally, the company has signed a licensing agreement for its device dialer software with Motorola Inc.
