I think even bothering to say whether the people who were savagely murdered were Jew, Protestant, Catholic, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist - whatever - does not matter in the slightest. They were human beings. The sooner these kinds of labels are dropped the better off we all are.
If you are Jewish and you meet a Jew who is completely rude, and then a Muslim that is likewise completely rude, how to describe them? They are simply...rude people. Their religion, like their shoe size or their favorite color is irrelevant. Irrelevant that is, unless you like labels and to put it bluntly, playing favorites because of someone's faith. There is no good way to use these labels. The fact is, true faith is something that, in its purest form is intensely personal, between an individual and God. I have always wondered why every devout know-all - all religions have their fair share - needs to share his deepest-held beliefs about the Great Mysteries with me. I really don't care. I'm more interested in whether you might be an intelligent, amicable human being than what you think about what's outside the known Universe. If the belief meant anything to you at all you would keep it private, and not discuss it unless asked, and even then you would think twice before baring your soul to anyone. |
