<font color=red>Special category of Shame

I think I'll put the Canadian Securities Commissions in some special Hall of Shame.

IMO, the self-regulatory nature of the the Securities Industry in Canada is a joke. It's like letting the Mafia decide what's a crime.

On a number of threads, I speculated that I thought these guys would find some way to delay again the new Insider Trade electronic filing system.
The SEDI, the System for Electronic Disclosure by Insiders, is supposed to give individual, private investors a more timely look at Insider Trading.

I don't know how many times they've now delayed it.

Here's the news from yesterday's Globe.

Deadline extended on electronic trading reports

Saturday, October 27, 2001 – Print Edition, Page B3

Corporate insiders have been given an extra month to gear up for the national electronic insider trading reporting system created by Canada's regulators.

The provincial securities commissions said yesterday that insiders will now have to file trading information electronically to SEDI, the System for Electronic Disclosure by Insiders, as of Dec. 17. Earlier, the deadline had been set at Nov. 13.

Public companies will also have an extension of their deadline to file electronic corporate profiles, to Nov. 19 from Nov. 5.

The regulators said the extensions will give all parties more time to "fine-tune and further test" the system, which will replace paper-based reporting.
