Morris: Remove Biden

The man who engineered the only two term Democratic presidency
since Franklin Roosevelt warned Saturday that Sen. Joe Biden
(D-De) should be removed as the party's chief foreign policy
spokesman after criticizing the U.S. war effort last week.

"The comments of Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Sen.
Joe Biden that a long bombing campaign would 'play into every
stereotypical criticism' of the United States as 'a 'high-tech
bully' do a terrible disservice to those who are trying to fight
and win a war," argued former senior Clinton political advisor
Dick Morris, in an op-ed piece for the New York Post.

"The only proper response for the Democratic Party is to remove
Biden as the party spokesman on foreign policy by ousting him"
from his chairmanship, Morris urged.

The man whose political acumen guided Bill Clinton to an unlikely
second term offered the harsh words despite Biden's attempts to
boost Morris' former boss as a roving Mideast ambassador for the
Bush administration.

"During a meeting last week Mr. Biden recommended to Mr. Bush
that former President Bill Clinton be appointed as a special
envoy to the Middle East," the Washington Times reported
Thursday.

Biden's suggestion drew "an incredulous response from others at
the meeting," the Times said.

Despite Biden's efforts, Morris warned that Democrats needed to
toss him over the side.

"To permit him to continue as party spokesman on foreign affairs
and to allow him to remain in the chairmanship of that committee
is a tacit endorsement of his views," he contended.

"To keep a man like that in charge of oversight of foreign policy
means Bush has to deal with a senator who clearly does not
understand the righteousness of the American cause or the need to
minimize political interference."
