Bulgarian tanker keeps afloat after fire near Novorossiisk
STAVROPOL, Oct 28, 2001 (Itar-Tass via COMTEX) -- The Khan-As-Parokh Bulgarian oil tanker, which caught fire on Saturday, keeps afloat.
The tanker with 79,950 tonnes of crude oil on board had left Novorossiisk for Greece. It caught fire after it had passed the Doob Cape between Novorossiisk and Gelendzhik.

It took firemen several hours to put the blaze down. They managed to prevent the spill and burning of oil.

Six crew members of the Bulgarian vessel were taken to a Novorossiisk hospital with wounds, burns and fume poisoning. The medics say they condition is stable.

The tanker was towed to the Doob Cape area. The Captain Beklimishev vessel of the Russian Ministry for Civil Defense and Emergencies accompanied the tanker on its way.

A commission has been formed to investigate reasons for the fire and assess the damage with the assistance of representatives of the ship owner.
