It would still be interesting to hear Ray's viewpoint. There is no need to drown out his voice. Hopefully, Ray can control his urge to personal attacks. It would be more constructive to argue against the facts and opinions that Ray has brought up rather than branding him.

Oil is an important commodity for several countries including the US. One cannot rule out Oil being a factor in the war on Afghanistan. Look at how little resistance countries such as China and Russia have shown in objecting to US attacks on Afghanistan. They all benefit from an Oil/Gas pipeline. They must see those benefits clearly otherwise they would object to the long-term US intervention
in Afghanistan, a country that borders both China and Russia. The 911 terrorism incident may be a factor, but not the only factor. US Green Berets have been in Uzbekistan since 1999, according to NY times.

And India has been relatively quiet. Just some months ago, I had read about India wanting an Oil or gas pipeline through Pakistan. And that begged the question of the pipeline's security given prior India/Pakistan relationships.

On the other hand, Saudi Arabia and other Middle East nations would not want to lose their competitive edge if Oil resources from Russia and Central Asia are tapped.
