Jim, Re: "For those who haven't seen it. Check out the AMD video with the HSF taken off..."

When properly set up, it's sure nice to know that the temperature sensor really does work, but when Tom's Hardware did their video, the temperature sensor was not set up. Having incomplete setups is just as bad as having a bug in the actual hardware. The difference between Palomino and the Pentium III and Pentium 4, is that Intel builds the thermal diode to work without any support from the BIOS or external drivers, so there is no situation where it will fail completely. Now that AMD has proven that their hardware works, their next job is to make sure that motherboards that are shipped have the right settings so that their chip won't go into meltdown on them.

Overall, this is still a black eye for them when it comes to server sales. They have justified their product, but beyond a few eager Internet enthusiasts, how well is AMD doing in showing this to their customers?
