I think we're going to have to really beat the message into the heads of these Afghans that if you want to be our enemy, we're treat you that way.. which would mean we should have been strafing that 100 truck convoy on its trip to Kabul.

I think we need to send another message to the Afghanis living in the cities that we cannot, and will not, guarantee their safety if they permit the Taliban to use Mosques, hospitals, or other civilian facilities to shelter their weapons and troops. And that means these civilians need to completely avoid being ANYWHERE near such military targets, or better yet, leave the cities altogether leaving only Taliban there.

Even better than those two solutions would be encouraging these folks to rise up against the Taliban, kicking them out of the cities.

But we simply have to put that message out that we have no beef with those who do not declare themselves enemies of the US, or provide support for the Taliban and Bin Laden.

But my gut feeling is that with the execution of Haq, this war effort just suffered a major setback and the last opportunity to end this war quickly.
