Agilent Technologies Introduces Microarray Kit With Human Genome Screening Capabilities

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 29, 2001-- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A - news) today introduced the second in its line of human cDNA microarray kits. The ready-to-use kit, with human genome screening capabilities, delivers consistent genomic information to researchers racing to discover new drugs and diagnose diseases.
Based on Agilent's industrial-scale inkjet manufacturing of printed microarrays, these new cDNA microarrays contain more than 14,000 amplicons(1) representing cDNAs from Incyte's proprietary Human Foundation 1 and 2 clone sets. With the new Agilent Human 2 cDNA Microarray Kit (G4101A) and the previous version (G4100A), researchers can now study the expression of more than 25,000 human sequences with the convenience and consistency associated with a pre-packaged format.
``We've ramped up and made exciting breakthroughs in delivering cDNA microarrays that exhibit unparalleled consistency and quality,'' said Barney Saunders, vice president and general manager of Agilent's BioResearch Solutions. ``By using well-characterized content from Incyte Genomics, we're now able to provide researchers with genome-wide screening with our cDNA microarrays as well as targeted gene expression analysis using our custom in situ microarrays designed with probes that map to Incyte clones or other sequences of interest.''
``We're pleased with the speed by which Agilent is building their product line,'' said Roy A. Whitfield, chief executive officer of Incyte. ``It's evident that their technology roots combined with their product-generation know-how have been brought to bear on taking our content to create cDNA microarrays and kits that should deliver a whole new level of consistency and quality not previously seen with 'in-lab/homebrew' microarrays and methods.''
Agilent's cDNA microarrays are printed on standard 1`` x 3'' glass slides that can be imaged on numerous microarray scanners including Agilent's new 48-slide DNA Microarray scanner (G2565AA). In addition, the cDNA microarrays are based on a two-color assay format that enables simultaneous expression analysis of two samples on one microarray, reducing variability and increasing productivity. All Agilent cDNA microarray kits are delivered with four microarrays (two each printed per glass slide), hybridization buffer, user protocol and a CD containing pertinent microarray layout information. For ease of use, an optional Agilent Fluorescent Direct Label Kit for cDNA synthesis and labeling is also available.
Availability
The Agilent Human 2 cDNA Microarray Kit is available now for commercial release in the United States, Canada, Japan and Europe. Further information is available by contacting a local Agilent sales representative, by e-mailing Agilent at dna_microarrays@agilent.com, or by visiting Agilent's Web site at www.agilent.com/chem/dna (enter code: BR3002).
