I am only a student like you, but maybe I've studied it longer (and still don't 'have it") Aspects by major planets like Saturn and Pluto opposing one another are long term in effect. that means that the effect can go on for years. Reminders of the 'signature' of Saturn and Pluto can be eclipses at that degree or squaring that degree as an example. Any transits to the degree or 90 degree and maybe other degrees are significant can bring the vibration of this opposition into focus, and that goes on for years depending on eclipse patterns and other phenomenon etc.
Here is a good link for some information about the Saturn Pluto 33 year cycle:

I also like to look at mythology for 'meditations' on the meaning. In my purview it really stretches one's imagination:

Saturn and Pluto are really the "heavies" Look at who Pluto is mythologically ( a child of Saturn) and look at Saturn also known as Cronus. The images are very evocative. They are the images of destruction. Cronus castrates his father Uranus and then Canibalizes his children. With respect to the imagoes of Pluto. It was said by Sophocles: " 'the gloomy Hades enriches himself with our sighs and our tears'. He rules the unseen and controls wealth.

I think for astrologers who profess to the practice (not myself) the diabolical power of this configuration takes on new meaning and depth. If this all sounds like gibberish to you, I apologize , but I feel that the mythological imagery as it relates to astrology is very rich.

As I said I am not an authority...just a part time student with a library of 200-300 astrology books. I enjoy this dialogue.
