But I see little evidence of similar amounts of aid being utilized elsewhere where best intentions and integrity could help a lot, such as in Africa....how can one be integrity and not the other?
To begin with. The situations are much different. Where else is there a country where all it's neighboring countries have vowed to destroy it? It is integrity to help that country. With most all examples that could be provided to help with wrongs toward ethnicities or religions. It is a dirty mixed up situation within a country where we will get something from helping... a black eye from those we seek to help. Somalia is a great example... the people living there could easily have let us know current intelligence on the war lords. They could also have easily let us know there was an ambush. We faced the fact that all we were going to get was mud in our faces...so we left. But we did try...we had integrity... We also have showed great integrity in Bosnia and Kosovo. However, the Muslim fundamentalists still spit in our face in spite of our helping Muslims in those countries. Israel is home. That has been their home since Abraham wondered around the middle east. It is their birth right. I don't think you understand that those Muslims are descendants of Abrahams son through his wife's handmaiden. They thought they would never be able to have a son. So his wife, Sarah, gave her handmaiden to him so he could have a son. Then afterward, Sarah had a son. Abraham then sent the handmaiden away with that son, Ishmael. Sarah's son, Isaac had a son named Jacob. When you say Israel, you say: "Sons of Jacob". Ever since then, the descendants of Ishmael have tried to destroy Israel. Israel has always crushed them. Our government has always known of this. After all, it is in the Bible. We have chosen to back Israel. This has nothing to do with anything we get from Israel. Now if all our foreign policy were nothing but selfish acts to get something out of a country. Where is that selfish act in helping Israel? I have also shown other non selfish acts in foreign policy where we were kicked in the face for our integrity. Just because we don't help certain situations isn't because we don't care, or always act only according to selfish policy. It may very well be because no matter what we do, it is a loosing situation that requires help we cannot provide. I still hold up Vietnam, and Korea as examples of help that was not imperialistic, self serving, what are we going to get out of them, kind of acts. We have also, throughout our history, tried to avoid sticking our nose in other countries business. But, helping someone like Isreal is not sticking our nose in....Isreal asked for help and we provided the support. Supporting Israel also blows a big hole in the theory that we always have a self serving, imperialistic, what are we going to get out of it kind of foreign policy. Otherwise we would turn on Israel to back our Oil interests in the Middle East, instead of irritating those interests. Also, being the greatest power on the face of the planet is making it harder to simply mind our own business. Still, there are many situations where we don't have the ability to help...the help those people need, must take place within each individual person there.
