Malcolm,

Not a bad KO vs. QCOM *valuation* and *stock*
analysis.

Actually I asked a trick question. :-))) I
asked about the KO vs. QCOM *company* analysis -
which is a forte of this thread. And that does not
include valuation, so everyone can participate. :-)))

Even if one does not plan to invest in KO, there
are very interesting things to be learned. OK,
I'll start on couple of them and let the
others pitch in:

1. Product lifetime:
KO - 80 (?) years and no visible limit for the future.
QCOM - patent life, then who knows, even shorter if
non-covered innovations appear before patent expiration.

2. Revenue growth:
KO - intrinsic: low but guaranteed.
Some possibility of further 3rd world expansion.
I did not recently calculate the potential markets.
External - new products -
possible, but in my opinion - undesirable, since I
would prefer KO to remain huge cash cow of their
current products, than to squander profits on
lower margin risky markets.
This answers your comment on "what other products
will they get into".

QCOM - intrinsic: possibly high, possibly low.
Rather unpredictable and highly volatile. There is
a lot of analysis available, so I'm simplifying.
External: most likely also undesirable.

I'll stop on that for now with teasers on couple more
categories:
3. Product consumability (who, how consumes product)
4. Sales dependency on economy.
5. Research and infrastructure investment...

I personally think that the comparison is enlightening.

Jurgis - homework for all? ;-)
