In regards to your question on McCain.....Yes, I like him a lot...a straight shooter who I would have voted for had he won the primary. I continue to respect him, but I'm a little aghast at his proposal to put more troops on the ground in Afghanistan. I'd prefer that he let the military have a little more time to pursue their own game plan before stirring the pot. Seems like everyone is trying to outguess the military, and we're only 3 weeks into this war! Should be a hell of a mess by the time 6 months have passed.
I see it as the "balkanization of the US". The right, the left, the religious, the media, the pacifists, the hawks..........we've gotten into a hell of a mess, and its going to get uglier and nastier as things go on.
On the other hand, the overtures from the Soviet Union and Iran are somewhat heartening, though the long-term prospects of these potential alliances are quite unclear.
