The odds are against short traders now. The volatile market makes it tough for short sellers because the price of stocks can spike in either direction, and that choppiness threatens percentage returns.

"Sellers are out of the game," Howard says. "There aren't particular sectors across the board that we can rely on now to short sell."

This may be a sign that that the stock market will soon hit bottom. Perhaps this is an indication that the market is ready to turn up
