wanna, In this price war if Intel can get AMD in a position where AMD loses money while Intel makes money and AMD is unable to change this , eventually AMD runs our of monay and Intel wins. Now if AMD has a market segment like flash that will offset these losses and even make money they can do it forever.

As we speak Intel is in this first position vis-a-vis AMD, since flash is down at the moment.

If flash stays down and the hammer is broken AMD is done. If flash comes back and makes some money then AMD will have more time, and may be able to make the hammer work perfectly.

If, however the hammer works and few adopt the ia64 then AMD might just kick ass for while. If flash also comes back, .....look out Intel.
So it all depends on the hammer. If AMD can maintain it's current statues until the hammer comes in on spec and in budget it will be a race.

Now what can Intel do to stop this eventuality?
Cur prices and that is what it did, that is all it can do right now.
From Intel's point of view the Athlon is dispairingly good. It routinely kicks a faster P-4 to death and is gaining mindshare as people see this. In addition the video card problems with the i845 spell big trouble for Intel.

We live in interesting times, do we not?
