I suppose the Moores will take no tax deduction, same for his tax free foundation.

You beat the wrong drum here. Both are giving for valid reasons and the tax deduction for both is reasonable.


Actually, there is a distinction: Neither the Moores nor their foundation will get a tax deduction (they'll simply avoid ever paying any capital gains tax on this fraction of their windfall in the company he founded), while AMD's cash donation will be deductible for income tax purposes.
