Haim,
Although you did not direct your comments to me in particular, let me say a few words in my own defense since your post was prompted by my response. I consider myself very open to new ideas, particularly those from cultures other than my own. I have politically and philosophically eclectic tastes in reading material, and I welcome ideas opposite my right-libertarianism: I subscribe to Left Business Observer, Adbusters, and Harper's (as well as a few right-wing rags).
Maybe you are familiar with the book about my namesake: "Oblomov," by Ivan Goncharov? It is hardly a pro-Western work. Of course, I chose it with a heavy dose of irony in mind.
My criticism was not a reflexive reaction to ideas from another culture; instead, it was a response to an atrocious writing style and a trite argument. It is one that has been trotted out many times by the American left-lite like a tired show pony. In any case, what's wrong with holding defense stocks? Should GWB the 1st be precluded from holding them directly or indirectly, especially when his scion promised during the campaign to boost defense spending? As a proud owner of LMT and UTX, perhaps I am also guilty of profiteering? As a holder of RGR, perhaps I am guilty of cashing in on the fears of the American public?
This said, I thoroughly enjoy reading your views and your posts. But simply because I respond negatively to an article that you post does not mean that I reject the validity of non-US viewpoints. On the contrary, I embrace well-reasoned and well-written arguments no matter the source.
