I don't think the incineration of Riyadh would be counted as a good thing by the bin Laden crowd, do you? Or a Western takeover of the oil fields of the Middle East, which is going to be on the table very soon, if these attacks continue for long. Bin Laden, like other anti-American leaders in the last century such as Hirohito, Hitler and Kruschev does not understand the determination of this country to chart its own course. He is attempting to dictate American policy at the point of a gun. That won't work. It will have the opposite effect. If this lands the U.S. in a state of war with every Islamic nation across the globe, Americans will back it and completely. Not only that, but NATO and Russia as well. Do not forget that NATO has invoked Article Five, and right now the British and French are sending more troops to the region.

Your premise is that this is not a war between Western civilization and Islam. I am afraid at this point that it has become clear that it is. In that case, the only victory bin Laden can possibly achieve is if America fails to recognize this fact before it is too late, and the cost has skyrocketed.
