I can't figure out the vector in the two latest cases. I am getting more and more baffled. If all kinds of mail somehow got contaminated from just a few letters it seems more likely that there'd be more cases and a broader distribution (these post offices don't just sort incoming mail, they sort outgoing mail--mail going all over the country). Theoretically just a few spores could cause skin so theroetically the Hamilton woman got very unlucky. But the Ear Eye & Throat woman?

The latency period is so variable too. Now finally another editor at the NY Post has it. We already knew the latency period was variable but that makes it much harder to assess the threat because it makes the epidemiology harder. I do note that they're questioning all those who came into contact with the new inhalation case since Oct 11. I read between the lines there that there was another slew of anthrax letters that week, since Oct 11 was the previous Ashcroft warning. And since it generally takes 2-3 weeks for symptoms (thats the peak occurrence)...

Any thoughts?
