On the west coast they feared a japanese attack i believe. There are subtle differences between a Hitler and a Stalin that make it possible to deal with one and not the other. Same might one day be said for sadam and osama. Osama is a religious fanatic. Sadam is more like a gangster. Can join forces with al capone to fight the terrorists because after all we both have too much to lose if the terrorists win. They would hang both Bush and Capone. But one would/should never use bin laden forces to fight crime, because although you will get dead criminals you will wind up getting the Taliban definition of criminal--woman who dont cover up etc. The Soviets often entered into untited fronts. The Russians did rational things. mike
