The cost of the WTC attack is more than what we pay for a decade's worth of our Middle East oil imports.

That's a valid point... but it would be more like 4-5 year's worth. I believe we are somewhere in the $10-15 Billion per year range for oil imports directly from Saudi Arabia.

And total US exports derived from OPEC nations amount to only some 46% of total imports. Actually Canada is the largest exporter of oil to the US (and I don't mind buying from "family".. :0)

And you're right that Saudi Arabia could not afford to stop pumping oil. In fact, were a radical regime to come to power in SA, it's quite possible they could take the tact that they need to run the competition out of the market and try to dominate the oil markets. But then again, they might be foolish enough not to sell to "infidel" nations.
