LONDON (Reuters) - British defense contractor BAE Systems Plc has tightened its grip on the slippery combat aircraft business with the victory of partner Lockheed Martin Corp in the huge U.S. Joint Strike Fighter competition.

BAE's 14 percent share in Lockheed's $19 billion full-scale development contract and in the possible $200 billion production phase is bigger than the British company's current money spinner, a 37 percent share of the smaller Eurofighter project.
