That seems a tad overboard, although I do agree that there are two sets of things going on: Those reported for our sakes and those behind the scenes. A complete loss of faith in economic policy makers is "right round the corner," but that is different from a complete loss of confidence in the government as a whole.

Terrorists can do a lot to disrupt and esp to destabilize our economy which was so vulnerable to start with. They will certainly succed at this, but whether they will succeed at larger objectives is not clear -- even if there should be attacks similar to that of Sept 11.

Recent events have provoked what I call a 'thin veneer' of patriotism -- when things really get dire, I think we will find that there are a number of people in this country who will pull together. Not fun to watch or be a part of -- but that is where we are at. Got to be ready to go the extra mile ourselves and make some sacrifices, IMO.
