I don't think you quite understand the big picture yet. Yes, ntap should be viewed as a new young upstart in SAN. But more importantly. NTAP is the ONE AND ONLY new young upstart in TOTAL STORAGE SOLUTIONS. EMC has talked about linking SAN islands together. NTAP can link every type of storage you have together to form one big manageable storage system. And it doesn't matter where in the world the different storage systems are. This enables NTAP to go into a company and say: "Ok... we can link all your storage together. That means you can download all that old stored information you haven't used for years, from this and that SAN island, this direct attached storage, and that server attached storage, to tape disks. Then have the disks put in a vault for archiving. You will then have all that storage freed up so you can use it. We can solve your current problem by installing banks of NAS filers that will in effect be a XXYOX SAN system to handle that really fast new need you have. Those filers can work with whatever stored data you want from anywhere in your company. Not only can we do all that. We can sell it to you in as small amounts that you wish at a time. So you won't have to lay out five hundred million at one time to handle that new $2M storage availability problem you have. And you will be able to keep expanding at any time you want with whatever you want at your pleasure and when it makes you comfortable to spend that money." This is what is giving NTAP a big advantage against EMC right now. BirdDog You people really should read what DS was talking about. And follow the leads he provided.
