US does not share Musharraf's assessment on war

(Washington, October 31)

The United States says it does not appreciate Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's constant advice for a bombing pause in Afghanistan during the holy month of Ramzan.
Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer told reporters yesterday that they did not share Musharraf's assessment on the US-led war against Afghanistan though they appreciated his help to the coalition in its onslaught against global terrorism.

Both were asked to comment on Musharraf's assessment that the war is going nowhere and his desire to see it shortened as soon as possible.

Rumsfeld and Pentagon officials at their briefing said the war was progressing well.

Rumsfeld pointed out these things take time saying "There is no silver bullet".
