American Power Conversion Expands Three-Phase Product Offering to Include Power Distribution Unit
APC's New PDU Houses the Largest Number of Sub-feed Breakers While Requiring Less Space on the Data Center Floor

WEST KINGSTON, R.I., Oct. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- American Power Conversion (APC) today announced the addition of a PDU (power distribution unit) to its current three-phase product offering. APC's new PDU distributes power where and when its needed throughout the data center.

The APC PDU (75kVA-300kVA) is designed for use with APC's large Silcon® Delta Conversion On-line technology series of uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). Coupled together, the Silcon series and APC's new PDU are an ideal power protection and management solution for Internet infrastructure, data center and enterprise applications.

``APC is committed to expanding its product offering in the three-phase market to truly provide customers with a one-stop-shop to outfit their data centers from a power protection and management perspective,'' said Dwight Sperry, general manager APC's Enterprise Systems and Services Group. ``Our innovative solutions are designed with the customer's needs and requirements in mind. APC's new PDU goes beyond existing solutions, providing facility managers with more sub-feed breakers and opportunity for expansion, in a smaller, more flexible footprint.''

Requiring a minimal amount of space, APC's PDU provides more open floor area in the data center that can house equipment that help generate revenue. Front access to the PDU allows easy contact to the unit and eliminates the need for ``white space'' for maintenance and service.

APC's space-saving PDU offers up to eleven sub-feed breakers, the highest number of breakers per area when compared to other units on the market. In addition, sidecars can be mounted to either side of the APC units, eliminating constraints on the end user in relation to the number of panel boards they require.

The PDU system offers customers the flexibility of both top and bottom cable entry and exit, without incurring any additional costs. APC's PDU system also provides the convenience of mobility; as it can be relocated within the data center as needed.

Additional features of APC's PDU include local and remote monitoring capabilities, providing a simple process for monitoring the status of the PDU from anywhere in the data center or at the desktop, and pin sleeve hinges on the doors-prevent accidental power loss, reducing mean time to repair. APC's new PDU will be available in North America in the fourth quarter 2001. Additional information on APC's new PDU or its other products and services can be found on APC's web site at apcc.com or by calling APC at 800-877-4080.
