Dataquest, a unit of Gartner, expects global revenue for the semiconductor industry to have declined 35 percent in 2001 from 2000's levels and believes 2002 will mark the start of a recovery -- though anemic -- for the industry.

Gartner said the Sept. 11 tragedies compounded already weak demand and predicted that 2002 revenue growth would be just 3 percent. But by 2003, the semiconductor industry is expected to be in the midst of a full-blown growth cycle, according to the research firm, with an annual growth rate of approximately 30 percent.
