Windsock, > Re:"AMD could take off like a rocket if SOI works out well.
Yesterday, when the SOI question came into the webcast by the probable AMDroid, Barrett quickly fielded it himself, saying Intel sees no advantage in SOI, and that Intel will continue to remain transistor switching speed leader without SOI. The reason I say Barrett quickly answered is that, he, Barrett, acknowledged each question coming in, and then decided whether to delegate it to Paul O., or Sean M., etc., or take it himself. He jumped on the SOI question because most of his experience at Intel was in manufacturing and process engineering, so he's very confident of those areas. That gives me a lot of confidence that the SOI = a No-op, waste of time and money (if Intel can stay significantly ahead in process technology á la getting to 0.09 in 2003) is true.
Back to the delegating of question, maybe a small point, but Barrett was pretty careful to delegate them where appropriate. Sanders, OTOH, grabs most of them himself when he's on, and sometimes even "corrects" his underlings.
