Remember that all Intel representatives have sworn that there was no benefit to Copper on .18. Note that AMD showed micrographs of transistors they'd manufactured with 5 nm gate lengths using a ".13" copper process in a slide show given in 1999. They were reporting on the results of 198nm stepper tests performed at their submicron development FAB.
