.... Or, more current, how many nan might have gone to feed Afghani families had not Taliban militia cleaned out UN warehouses in Kabul and Kandahar of 5K of wheat yesterday...
Of course, the bombings were regretable and I wouldn't maintain that the American pilots may not have recognized the Red Crescent emblem. No one yet has made that claim, not even Rumsfeld. Nor has he asserted that the buildings were bombed to keep the grain out of the hands of the Taliban.
Actually, as I was "Googling"* around--and google will surely enter the next dictionary revisions--it turns out that the warehouses contained little grain as it is--perhaps 7000 tons in all.
What I was replying to was a post by the Precious One (caps P, C) of a recipe for Nan in informing me that wheat was a staple in the Afghani diet as his reply to my notation that the US had supplied 75,000 tons of wheat to Afghanistan earlier this year.
So it seems that our bombing appears to be destroying some of our own food assistance. Another little irony (blowback?). Yet, It might be a stretch, but much of bombed grain, if not atomized, may have spread far and wide. Of course, there's always a question of finding the makings for a fire to bake the nan. Having been directly involved in several emergency famine areas, I am aware of the theft, leakages, corruption and military uses that donated food is put to. Afghanistan is no differerent.
Google: Though it may be copywrited, they better watch out it doesn't go the way of zerox.
