I was in favor of the efforts by Clinton and Barak to create a reasonable settlement. In response, Arafat didn't just make counterproposals, he started another round of violence. I don't think that most of Israelis believe that the Arabs and Palestinians will accept peace with Israel. The Palestinians have stated in their plans that a state in the West Bank and Gaza is just one step leading to the destruction of Israel.

I think the attack on 9/11 and the reaction to it in Muslim nations around the world, supports my belief that it is dangerous to allow the Arabs to avoid making peace directly with Israel. Israelis don't trust a UN/NATO force to protect it and neither do I. Any treaty must not require outside forces.
