Peter,

I don't see I2O products shipping in any kind of volumes until mid-1998 at the earliest. I was
at PC Expo last week, and spent a great deal of time
talking with the major PC server vendors (Compaq, HP,
Dell, and IBM) about I2O. First off, none of the
these vendors were showing I2O systems in their booths.
Even Intel didn't have any I2O demos in their booth. When
I asked why, most of thee vendors said that I2O simply isn't done. Compaq in particular complained that the I2O committee doesn't
have a final spec. yet and that they feel uncomfortable about
showing products until there is a spec. BTW, I spoke mostly
with technical people at PC Expo, not the marketing folks.

Also Steve Ballmer let slip in his PC Expo address that
Windows NT 5.0 won't ship until mid-1998, not Q1 of 1998
as Microsoft previously was talking about. NT 5.0 first needs
to get out the door before I2O hardware really makes any
sense. NT 5.0 will be the first Microsoft OS to have I2O drivers.

PC Week did an article last month that talks about the I2O driver
problems. The URL of the article is www8.zdnet.com

When it comes to I2O, I think a little patience is in order.

Richard
