MeDroogies, Hate to break this to you but econometrics is a sophisticated or different form of TA. TA is a term commonly used to describe Stock Chart Analysis and Market Analysis using index charts. Classic Stock Chart Analysis does not predict nor care about what drives the stock price or market. Reasons are looked for after the fact. Econometrics does try to predict. Econometics also uses charts representing different economic factors to communicate economic history and project the future to support specific study results. Econometrics looks for relationships between the various economic data and activities. A fall in auto units produces less demand for sheet steel. A population increase produces more demand for food. An aging population increases the demand for certain types of drugs. The type of data needed for long term corporate and government planning. At least, the model I was invited to work on as a grad student in 1972 had a design thesis to make some defined economic predictions. The corporation sponsoring the project wanted a model constructed to use for specific planning purposes. A promotion transfer interrupted my participation at an early stage. Something I have regretted for a long time. NW
