Honestly, and I really don't mean to offend here, but since you asked, I think it was an amazing example of a case of knowing the terms but not understanding what they mean or what the interrelationships are. I think you should either:

1) spend more time talking privately with GVTucker since his understanding of accounting matches what they taught me in business school - so of course I think he's right (btw, we both went to Michigan so they could be teaching it wrong there, I suppose) or
2) go get an MBA, CPA or CFA in your spare time - then you can tell us we're full of it as you site chapter and verse from the textbook.
