I have not gone as far as reading what Dan posted, I will do that later. I was a bit amazed by your generic statements about amd (competitor) in
Message 16588412
such as
"AMD only makes money in times of excess processor demand?" (1)
"They have frequently been able to build more than they could sell. 486, K5, K6, K7...... We've been here before."(2)

re: Regarding correlation of financial results, do you have a question here or are you just confirming my point?

if (1) was intended as an illustration of correlation then it is a confirmation otherwise it is a question.

re: Dan proposed AMD can produce 50million K7's next year.
(2) creates an impression that overproduction exists or existed with k7 but it could have been a typo, I suppose.
But that brings us to an interesting question of overcapacity. Don't you think that bringing online new fabs, going to smaller geometry and larger wafers leads to overproduction. Few month back intel was talking of expansion into other fields and the actions may be partially justifiable but recently intel started to focus on core business. Am I wrong in my assumptions?
Regards
-Albert
ps Regarding 50Mil; if the demand would grow to what Intel suggest it might return to 50 mil would represent about 20% market share which amd currently holds
